Marie and Rommel's Wedding

So I wasn't very good at taking pictures for this one...(I was too busy coordinating!)...but I'm sure the photographer got some great shots and hopefully I'll see them soon.

The ceremony and reception were at the Sea-tac Marriott. I was so surprised by how much foliage was inside the atrium; it was beautiful. The space is indoors, but feels like it's outdoors, and lets plenty of light in from the window ceiling. Here are some of the shots I got:

...Got married over the weekend! Dating since 2006, she tied the knot with CAA talent agent David Bugliari, at his family's 30-acre estate in New Jersey.

Alyssa wore a custom gown by Vera Wang as she walked down the aisle with a Lillie's of the Valley bouquet and to the tune of John Lennon’s “Imagine” on Saturday. According to People, the aisle was strewn with cream-colored rose petals and natural grass.

BEIJING - A Chinese bride is hoping to enter the record books after getting married in a wedding dress with a train trailing behind her for more than 2 kilometers, or 1.2 miles.

It took guests more than three hours to roll out the gown, complete with 9,999 silk red roses attached to it, in the northeastern province of Jilin, state news agency Xinhua said.

"Both the length of the dress and the number silk roses pinned on the wedding dress can make history," the report quoted groom Zhao Peng as saying.

Zhao, who has applied to Guinness World Records, said he was inspired after seeing a story on the previous record holder in Romania, where the dress measured just over 1.5 kilometers.

"I do not want a cliche wedding parade or banquet," he said.

Bride Lin Rong "laughed and cried at the romantic gesture," Xinhua said.

10 Money-Saving Flower Tips

Celebrity event planner, Colin Cowie, offers up his top 10 tips to save money on flowers for any event:
1. Rather than using expensive cut flowers, use candles and intersperse a few fully blown blooms in between.

2. Consider incorporating fresh fruit and vegetables into your arrangements.

3. Use smaller tables to seat your guests. I like to have 8-10 guests at a 54″ round, and 10-12 guests at a 60″ round. Avoid tables larger than 60″ rounds; it’s difficult to make conversation and you’ll spend a fortune on your centerpieces just to fill the empty space in the middle of your table.

4. Serve dinner family style so food becomes the centerpiece. A platter of grilled chicken, a plate of crispy potatoes and small bowls of fresh green beans placed on the center of your table will look visually appealing and inviting.

5. Select inexpensive materials and use them in mass. Bunches of carnations, Baby’s Breath, Gerber Daisies or even Spider Mums will look rich and lush. The key is to keep them on their own and not mix them with other materials. No filler and no greens.

6. For a country look, instead of buying vases or renting them from your florist, use coffee pot creamers and sugar holders found at your local flea market. When stuffed with herbs and a few blooms, you’ll achieve a stunning country look without spending a fortune.

7. Use pots of planted flowers and herbs instead of costly arranged flowers.

8. Stay away from vases with large openings. Instead, select small vases that can be packed tightly with a few blossoms. Have a few on each table interspersed with candles to provide a rich look without the cost.

9. Instead of renting containers from your florist, use fabric remnants to cover inexpensive cardboard boxes.

10. Use floating candles in vases that have been filled with colored water. Select vases of different heights and size to achieve a dramatic look.

Wow, wouldn't you love to be married under this gourgeous piece of artwork? Can you guess where it's at???

It's at the Museum of Glass in Tacoma, WA! And it;s just so spectacular!

It's called the Chihuly Bridge of Glass, and is a 500-foot-long pedestrian overpass which features the art of Tacoma native Dale Chihuly. His art is recognized worldwide for his imaginative and exuberant artwork.

Trophy Cupcakes announced today, via Twitter, the opening of their third store (and first on the Eastside) is going to be at The Bravern in Bellevue.

Trophy Cupcakes is known around Seattle to be one of the best. They have unique flavors such as Chocolate Graham Cracker, Peanut Butter & Jelly and Chai using local or organic ingredients where possible. They are so pretty and cute too!

One the the top wedding trends I have been seeing lately is having cupcakes instead of cake. Trophy Cupcakes is perfect for weddings because they arrange them in such lovely ways for your table scape.

Owners Jennifer Shea and husband Michael Williamson opened Trophy Cupcakes in February of 2007, and currently have stores in Wallingford and University Village.

Now that summer is slowly making its end, it is time to talk about fall. It's hard to think about fall when it's 80 degrees outside, but it's vital to prepare you for its trends knowing that it is only weeks away. Fall weddings are the most beautiful with the vibrant and bold colors that create statements. Without taking any attention away from the bride, it is still important to dress appropriately. This season, we're looking at fringe, metallic, asymmetrical one shoulder and subtle prints.

Embrace yourself. Fringe?

Fringe has been the most popular trend over the summer (if you didn't catch it). It has evolved into a fall version and it has come in various shapes and sizes including the asymmetrical fringe dress in magenta by bebe. One shoulder dresses have been a hit in past red carpet events with celebrities and luckily it is still going to continue to be huge. Don't neglect the metallics for it will continue on into the holidays. Metallics that don't glam too much and is subtle to the wearer's taste is perfect for a fall wedding. Prints have been around for several seasons recently and likewise has transitioned into fall. This season we will be seeing more purple plums and royals with black. It is the perfect combination to look stylish, conservative and sharp.

All shades of purple is a refreshing and the black makes it bold and the right hue for fall season. By carrying a black clutch would complete the look. Don't forget minimal jewelry because the bride is the star of the show and you would be a shame to take that away from her. Great straps with mega heels would be perfect for the fall trends.

Shifting gears now, we're talking the men trends. Believe it or not. Plaid sports jackets are making a bigger comeback. You will never fail with a very chic, clean and sophisticated black on black with or without a tie. It never fails. Two-tone collar jackets are for the brave that want to make a grown up prep appeal. It has a sweater flare to the sports jacket making it more casual and that is going to vary on the wedding occasion. Boys, please make sure to find out the wedding's formal or casualness to find the perfect sports jacket. Another trend in sports jacket is that they have become shorter and less buttons is better. Try to avoid 3 button jackets unless you're attending a specific black-tie wedding.

Some word of advice for men is to wear a nice watch and keep your look fit. Your jacket and dress shirt should be well fitted and well steamed to minimize all wrinkles. Do not wear white socks unless you are trying to make a tribute to Michael Jackson which I doubt anyone at the wedding will even acknowledge. Wear deodorant so that when the after party starts you can take your blazer off proudly.

Rachel Kim lived in New York City after graduating from Seattle Pacific University with a degree in Fashion Merchandising and Business Administration, and is currently living in Bellevue (again). She has worked in high fashion and for jewelry in PR and sales. In addition, she coordinated parties, networking events, fundraising events and assisted at New York Fashion Week. She is everything in the word social. Rachel is not easily amused and does not settle for mediocrity. Her true passion for style and her love for the Eastside is proven in her latest blog, VueSociety.

Besides everything fashion, Rachel is a coffee and Panera addict, hence her yellow teeth. You can find her strolling around downtown Bellevue stuffing her face, or fishing at a spot she will not disclose, only because that will ruin her cover (not that this didn’t already). In her playlist, you can find anything from the Top 40, classical, opera, jazz and ballad. She even secretly listens to Warm106.9 at night while twittering. One last thing that you will notice about Rachel is that her umbilical cord from her blackberry and her fingers have not been cut. Enough said, right?

On a serious note, Rachel truly wants to share her knowledge and insights on fashion and be a resource to Eastsiders. Through her blog, she helps both sides of the counter. Her vision is that someday the Eastside will reach a point where it will be put on the map as one of the most fashionable communities. This is a great example of a sleek, simple updo. You could leave it as-is, but you could also add what you want (flowers to the side, or a viel on top of or below the bun).

I love this updo. It has texture and depth. Plus that clip adds just the right amount of sparkle.

I love this but be sure you test out this style before the day-of your wedding. You want to see how long your curls will last before going flat.

These fabric flowers are perfection. So elegant and soft. Remember: the flowers in your hair do not have to be real :)

Recently, I have been finding it difficult to help brides understand the value of a wedding planner, especially the value of my services. There are so many wedding planners in Seattle its crazy! So how do you determine which one is best for you?

Well, what sets me apart is my fee for planning. Because I am relatively new to the industry, my fee is VERY LOW! With my track record so far, I have saved each couple $1000 more than my planning fee.

For example, I charged a couple $2,000 for my planning services. After all vendors were negotiated and contracted, I has saved the couple $3,000. They wouldnt have been able to get the savings from all those vendors themseleves because they don't have the relationships with them that I do. Now, you ask "what does that mean?" Well, it means that not only did the couple save $1,000 overall, but they also got my help with EVERYTHING, which saved them so much time, energy and stress. AND they knew everything would be taken care of on the wedding day, so they didn't have to worry about a thing!

Tara and Stephens Wedding

The wedding this weekend was great. The bride hired us for guidence on the ceremony only, and she hired and planned almost everything herself. ALMOST everything went perfectly. The bride looked beautiful and the ceremony went off without a hitch. However, there were a few details that could have been avoided if she would have hired us as her Full-Production Wedding Planners.

The main issue was the photographer. Ricker Studios was hired by the bride, and they were not fun to work with. Here is what they wanted as their set-up during the ceremony:

If they kept it like this, it would have totally blocked a majority of the guests' view. Well, it was NOT going to happen. After trying to tell me that 'They were the professionals and knew what they were doing' they eventually agreed to move the set up to the side aisles.

One reason why they had this large set-up was because they had not gone to the church beforehand to test out the lighting. I always make sure the photographer has been to the actual site before the wedding so they are prepared and have all the right equipment.

Let's Get Cookin!

For the past few months I have been working with two great chefs who both have HUGE personalities! They produce a cooking/dinner show named Wise Guy Dinner Club, that they host at different wineries around Woodinville on Friday and Saturday nights. They cook Italian food and it is amazing! They also host cooking classes, where guests will eat dinner AND learn how to make what they ate, bring it home, and have a second (or even third) meal later!

Last Friday night I attended one of their cooking classes and it was so much fun. And let me tell you something; They DO NOT charge enough money for what they give!!!! They start out with wine and appetizers, then move on to a salad and the main course, all while entertaining you (They are hilarious) and filling you up with more wine! Then they teach you how to make the dinner you just ate, and you get to take it home at the end for another great couple of meals!

Last Friday it was at Mr. Jays Culinary Essentials in Bellevue. They have the perfect set-up: a full kitchen, a mirror hanging over the stove for the guests to see better, tables and chairs and stadium seating. They served lasagna and it was sooooo delicious! The guests loved it and it was so much fun!

Right now, I am working on booking them at different venues for both the shows and the cooking classes. If you have any suggestions for venues or would like to book them for your private party, let me know! They also have a portable stove/oven and counter top, that doesn't require any power outlets, so they can cook and produce shows outside as well!

My sisters are graduating from high school today. Yes, I said sisters...they are twins. And you know what graduation means? A lot of graduation parties for the class of 2009. Graduation parties are big business for many vendors.

At my high school's graduation party, we had an up-all-night, right after graduation. We were bussed directly to the party and couldn't leave until the buses left at 4am. There was a lot to do: Inflatables, casino games, psychics, photographers, a hypnotist, arcade games and a DJ. I bet these vendors are loving this season!

Anyways, I am so happy and excited for my sisters! Their graduation is a Safeco field this afternoon (don't worry, I'll take pictures to share with you!) They are both going to UW next fall and I know they will love it!

Microsoft's Official Bing Launch Party

As I mentioned last week in one of my posts, Andy Mirkovich Productions helped plan the official Microsoft Bing Launch Party. Here are some pictures from the party:

Everything was illuminated in Blue at the party until 10pm, when we lit the Space Needle up orange. Then, all the lights at the party went orange as well.

Eastside Wedding Location in Woodinville, WA

Last Friday, I dropped by Bear Creek Golf and Country Club in Woodinville, WA to say hello to the staff. We are their preferred Planner/Wedding Coordinators and I live right up the street from them, so its always nice to swing by and say hello to everyone.

Bear Creek Country Club is such a nice venue to have a wedding at. They have a great deck with a nice tent that overlooks the golf course and pond.

The deck connects to the main ballroom which has a built-in dance floor too. I stopped by while they were setting up for a luncheon inside.

You can see the wrap-around deck with the tent in the back here.

Downstairs, they have the dressing rooms for bride and groom with full-length mirrors and vanity areas for make-up and hair.

Bear Creek Country Club is great for the budget conscious bride. They have very reasonable pricing and Food & Beverage packages.

I spent almost the entire day yesterday in Seattle. It was a gorgeous day, I couldn't have asked for better weather, and I had so much fun checking out new wedding venues!

Actually, my first stop of the day was not a venue, and it was not in Seattle, it was a floral shop in downtown Issaquah! I met Jon, one of the designers, at A Countryside Floral and Garden. Its a fantastic little floral shop and accessory store. The name doesn't do it justice at all! Inside, it is very modern and colorful, not country-like at all.

The store is bigger than most floral shops. They have lots of home decor items, and cute little purses too.

In the back corner of the store, they have this little nook, where brides can sit down and have a consultation with one of the designers.

They do amazing work! Their flowers are all high quality and they have limitless ideas for arrangements. All designers are AIFD certified, so you know you are getting quality when you book with them.

Next I was off to the Seattle Yacht Club near the U District to look at their space for weddings.

If you are having your ceremony out on the lawn, this is a great space because the lawn is pretty big, right next to the water, and they have a very nice tent to go with it (usually the supports are covered in nice white drapes).

My next appointment wasn't for another hour and a half, and I didn't want to drive all the way back across the bridge to Bellevue just to drive back into Seattle again, so I decided to take advantage of the nice weather and Mike and I met up for lunch at Joey's on Lake Union. We ate outside on the water and it was so nice! I'm so happy he is finally over here now that he graduated from WSU.

So after lunch I had a site tour at Pravda Studios on Capital Hill. And what did I think of it?? I LOVE the space! Its one, big, 5000 sq ft open room with huge windows as the walls.

Above is about half of the room, empty. You can see how it can really transform to anything you want it to be. Tables, chairs, decor, drapes, and lighting can all be set-up however you want.

Below are a few pictures from events they have hosted. The space picks up any color you put in it. The white really makes the colors pop.

It was definitely a great day in Seattle for me! I love going on venue tours and meeting the event staff at each. Its helpful to put a face to a name, and it helps me build a relationship with the venue, which is my goal for going to them!

Last night was the official launch party for Bing, Microsoft's new search engine. (its very cool, you should check it out here). Andy Mirkovich Productions planned the party and it was fantastic! More details and pictures of the party to follow soon!

Tonight I am going to the Mariners game with my coworkers, family and friends! I cant wait to get outside and enjoy this AWESOME weather we are having!!! I hope they win :)

In 2 weeks I will be in Maui and I am so excited!! Its a long overdue family vacation with my parents and two sisters. I look forward to long, relaxing days on the beach and quality family time :)

That said, now that I am a Wedding Planner, I would love to visit great spots on the island for wedding ceremonies and receptions (just in case I get the good fortune of someone asking me to plan their wedding in Maui). Does anyone know of some good places you can reccommend for me to go and check out while I am there? I will be taking lots of pictures, so be expecting them when I get back :)

If you don't have enough in your budget for floral centerpieces AND bridesmaids bouquets, I really love this money saving idea.

Have the bridesmaids' hold bouquets during the ceremony, then have the bridesmaids hand them over after the ceremony (before all the guests arrive at the reception) and use them as part of the centerpieces on each table. Its so genius!

Here is an example. I wish I had a better picture of the bouquet, but it was very sunny that day and the light just reflected off the white flowers. But you get the gist of it I hope!

Then after the ceremony was over, the bridesmaids went inside and just placed the bouquets on top of the vases to finish the centerpieces!

If you are having a wedding shower, or are a bridesmaid planning the shower, and can't think of a fun activity for everyone, here is a great one.

I was recently at my cousin's bridal shower and thought what we did was such a good idea.

My cousins sister, the Maid of Honor, held the shower at her house. She did a great job decorating the place with streamers and confetti, etc. She also had a lot of good food and drinks for everyone. There was about 20 people there, and it was a good mix of family and friends.

The activity was a contest to answer the most multiple choice questions correctly about the bride. There was about 15 questions and each person had to circle the answer they thought was correct for each question. The person with the most answers right, got to win the prize (which was a very nice set of shampoo, conditioner, body wash and lotion). Everyone went through and circled their own answers, then at the end, the bride told everyone what her answers were.

What made it fun was that the questions were very random and anybody had a chance to win. Some questions were easy for family, some were easy for friends, and others were difficult for everybody. It was really a great activity and a great way for everyone to know some random facts and a little bit more about the bride!

A Great Washington Wedding Location

If you haven't been to Novelty Hill-Januik winery in Woodinville, you should! I went there a few weeks ago just to check the place out, and I have been meaning to post these pictures ever since!

Its a very cool, modern winery with lots of straight lines. They have a great indoor facility as well as lots of outdoor space. This winery is great because it can be used for both weddings and other special and corporate events.

This is the main room you walk into from the front entrance. The bar in the middle is for wine tastings and you can sit and enjoy the wine you buy at the tables. They can also clear off the tables and install a dance floor in this area, which is right outside of the indoor event area below.

This is the indoor event space. You can hang anything you like from the ceiling beams, so it makes for great atmosphere. This room seats 100 people in rounds and the kitchen is on the far back wall.

They have 3 of the huge barrel rooms side-by-side. The can transform the space for events with carpeting, soft furniture, tables, lighting and music.

This is an amazing room, located downstairs. The table is one HUGE piece of wood (I imagine it cost a fortune!) Along the baseboards, on the perimeter, are LED lights that can be changed to any color you like. It looks amazing with the blue, doesn't it? This room can seat about 30 people at the table.

This is one of the outdoor spaces used for wedding ceremonies. It is directly in front of the main entrance. Between the row of trees is the isle and folding chairs can be placed on either side for seating. At the end is a beautiful, tall, red fence. Its a lovely backdrop for the alter. Along with the isle space, you get the patio in front as well.

5 Common Wedding Reception Questions

1.) How do I manage my time at the reception? A great way to talk with everyone is to mingle with guests during the cocktail hour, then go from table to table during dinner as husband and wife, spending a few minutes at each table (just make sure you get something to eat realy quick first so you dont faint!).

2.) Where should we sit at the reception? You can either sit at a table with your wedding party and both families, or you can choose to sit at a table for two, just you and him. Either way, make sure you are facing the room and are centrally located so everyone can see you.

3.) Is there a good time to steal time with just the two of us during the reception? Usualy right after the ceremony, while evryone is headed over to the reception for the cocktail hour, is the best time. Then after you have made your entrance and mingled a little with guests, it is acceptable to step out fo the room for a few minutes to enjoy each other before heading back in.

4.) How do I prevent songs that I hate being played if someone requests the song? When you meet with your DJ or band, hand them a list of songs that you absolutely do not want played at the reception, even if someone requests it. Make sure the DJ or band understands this and has the list with them at the reception for quick reference. If someone does request it, the DJ/band can kindly explain to them that you have requested for it to not be played. Your guest should understand.

5.) How can I prevent too many people giving toasts? Have the maid of honor and best man contact the speakers beforehand and make a schedule. At the reception have the DJ or band announce that you and the groom are limiting toasts to make room for more dancing. Then have them start the music immediatley after the father of the bride makes his toast because he is usually the last toast of the night.

Last week I let you all know what a Bridesmaid should expect to do for the bride and wedding before the actual wedding day. Well today I'm going to write abuot a few things the bridesmaids should be doing on the day itself, so read on!

The bridesmaid's job today is to ensure everything runs smoothly and to calm and relax the bride. If anything does go wrong, the bridesmaids should be on top of it first thing so the bride doesn't have to worry (Of course, if you have a wedding planner, that is what they are hired for, so the bridesmaids, or anyone in the wedding, won't have to worry about it).

The bridesmaids should come prepared with small snacks and water bottles for everyone to have in the room while getting ready. No one wants the bride passing out at the alter! Also, designate one bridesmaid to bring an Emergency Kit just in case something happens.

Help the bride with her hair and makeup if necessary and also help her get into the gown.

Last but not least, be on time! There's no need to stress the bride out by being late!

What's a Bridesmaid to do??

I have had several requests to give some information to the bridesmaids about what they are expected to do for the bride before and during the wedding day.

One of the main things to remember about being a bridesmaid prior to the wedding is to be as helpful and supportive as possible to the bride. There is much to do before the big day. One of the most common is assisting the Maid of Honor as she plans the bridal shower and the bachelorette party. This is a great way to get involved and help out.

Be prepared to help the bride choose decorations, and help pick out the bridesmaids dresses.

This is good for you because not only are you supporting the bride, but you can offer your opinion, and not get stuck with bad dresses that you don't want to wear. You can also help by making sure you are on time to all of your dress fittings. And, if the groom doesn't want to help pick out gifts for the registry, offer to accompany the bride. She will definitely appreciate your help!

One last thing for bridesmaids to do before the big day, is to be as informed as possible. If you are informed, family and friends will know they can come to you with questions, rather than pester the bride and groom. Also, if there is a rehearsal, the bridesmaid should attend on time and offer to help tie up any loose ends.

I have been meaning to tell everyone about my new profile picture for a while now and am just now getting the chance!

One of my good friends, Julian Michael, shot them for me on a nice sunny day a few months ago in Seattle. He does some great work! I have never had my picture professionally taken before, so it was all new to me. He was fun to work with and helped me relax and get some great shots.

My Week of Event Planning in Bellevue, WA

Hello Everyone! I am so sorry that I haven't posted anything in an entire week! I have been crazy busy here and just haven't had a chance! Part of the problem is that my laptop, which I use at home, is currently out of operation until mid-May. The other part is that I have been on an event all week! So, I thought I would share with you what I have been up to this week.

We all know that the economy is bad right now (hopefully not for too much longer!) and the national and international corporate events that normally have a large budget, have been cut across the board. So certain events that have, in the past, flown people in from all over the world, no longer have the ability to do so. We still need people from other countries to hear and know the information being exchanged, but we can no longer bring them over and have in-person meetings. Well, how do we solve the issue?

We have virtual events!!! Yes, that's right, we do web casting and live meetings with the people in other countries that do not have the ability to be there in person.

And that is what I have been doing all week. We had a three-day virtual meeting with countries from all over the world. It was definitely an opportunity for me to learn something new, and try out new technology. There were some bumps along the way, but for the most part it turned out great!

So, where do I go from here? I think I am going to start researching what it takes to run live meetings myself and try my hand at it. Instead of paying some other company to run them for me and my client, I am going to learn how to do it myself! Good idea, huh?

I'm not just saying this because I am a Wedding Planner, I am saying this because it is the truth. The best way to save money on your wedding is to hire a planner.

Yes, you will save money if you hire a wedding planner! Planners have long-standing relationships with many different wedding vendors, which allows the couple to get major discounts from the vendors if they are working with that planner.

I have relationships with many different ceremony and reception venues, photographers, florists, jewelry makers, wedding cake shops, décor companies, videographers etc. Because of these relationships, I can negotiate prices down, and receive discounts or value-adds from these vendors for you. If a couple plans the wedding themselves, they will not receive these kinds of discounts that I can offer them.

Recently, I just saved a couple my entire planning fee on just the room rental alone! Not to mention all the other discounts I have gotten them (a free dance floor and sound system, discounts on flowers, décor, table linens, and food & beverage). This was because of my relationship with the venue, florist and décor company. They give couples a certain discount for working with me.

Therefore, when you see the price for hiring a wedding planner, don’t think of it as an extra expense. You will be saving that amount in all the discounts you get. PLUS, you will have security knowing that everything is being taken care of, and you won’t be so stressed out during the planning process. You and your family will actually get to enjoy your day, which is the most important part.

Tip #6: Cut Down on Your Printing Costs

As far as your invitations go, you can save a ton of money if you tweak just a few things. For one, choose only one ink color. Three colors might look nice, but it will add on costs that aren't necessary. Choose a colored paper instead and it will add more drama.

Next, consider combining the "Save the Date" cards with your invitations. You don't have to send out the Save the Date cards separately anymore. If you choose to forgo them, and just do invitations, send them out a little bit earlier, and save a lot of money on envelops, stamps, paper and ink.

Also, choose the shape of the invitation carefully. A square invitation might look cool, but will cost extra. Use one that can fit in a regular sized envelope. This way, you don't have to spend more on customized ones.

Tip #5: Save on Your Cake

Most people don't know they can save a ton of money on their cakes by making just a few small changes.

If you want a big, tiered cake with many levels, have the top one or two levels be real cake, and the rest of the levels just for show. Have the whole thing covered in frosting and decorations, so the entire cake looks real. You can do the cake cutting in front of your guests, with the second or top layer. Then, have a few sheet cakes in the back ready to be cut up to bring out to your guests. Sheet cakes are a lot less expensive and you will save a lot of money.

Next, skip the fancy details. Forgo the hand-made sugar flowers, which are very time consuming, and a lot more expensive, and put real ones that match your wedding bouquet instead. For more flair, you can add ribbon along the tiers. Also, choose butter cream frosting instead of fondant (it tastes better anyways).

Remember, cupcakes are always a fun and inexpensive option too!

Tip #4: Substitute Your Flowers

Most brides choose to have a lot of flowers at their wedding. They have their own bouquet, the bridesmaids bouquets, groom and groomsmen boutonnieres, corsages for the mothers, the table centerpieces, the flowers in the ceremony (at the altar, along the isle, along the walls, on the chairs, etc) and petals for the flower girls. All of this adds up REALLY fast. Especially if you are choosing more expensive flowers.

To reduce the cost of your flowers, try choosing flowers that are in season and locally grown. If they are flowers that have been flown in from another region, the costs go way up.

For example, if you exchange Black Magic roses for more reasonably priced, deeply colored dahlias in all your bouquets and table arrangements, you'll save about $4 a stem. If you were planning on having five roses per bouquet and 10 per centerpiece and have a wedding party of five gals and guest list of 150 people, you could save $700.

Tip #3: Simplify Your Menu

If you just can't cut down your guest list, try simplifying your menu. Your guests don't need to be stuffed after eating dinner, so you can definitely cut down the number of courses you have.

A plated dinner is usually more expensive than a buffet, so think about that too. Most of your guests might event prefer a buffet because it gives them the opportunity to decided what they do or don't want to eat.

Another option is to just serve appetizers, cocktails and dessert. Try having more of a cocktail-style reception where you have high bistro tables and little cocktail rounds for guests to mingle at. Not all guests will have a chair and table to sit down at, but that's okay! It promotes mingling, dancing, and it will cut down linen and centerpieces costs too!

You can also move your reception back a couple hours and have an evening cocktail and dessert party. If you start at 8:00pm, guests will know to eat dinner beforehand, and wont expect to have a full-on dinner. They can sip cocktails and nibble on dessert during the reception and be completely happy.

So as you can see, there are plenty of ways to cut down on your food bill. Do whatever works best for you!

#2: Reduce Your Guest List

When it comes down to it, this is one of the reasons why most weddings are so expensive. You need to find a venue that can hold a large number of guests, and then you have to wine and dine them all. Its adds up so fast you will be shocked! Especially with today's F&B minimums that you must hit.

Lets say you have an Saturday wedding and reception. You have invited 200 guests and the venue is charging you an $80 food and beverage minimum per guest. Well if you do the math, it adds up to $16,000 without tax and gratuity!!! That doesn't even include the cost for the room rental, your dress, the photographer, and flowers!

Now you see how fast the costs can add up if you have a big guest list. My suggestion to you is to cut the guest list and have a smaller wedding with only your closest family and friends. Again, this is only a suggestion and only one of the options you have to save money on your big day.

This weekend was extremely productive for me. I had a meeting with one of my couple's at a floral shop and saved them a lot of money. She is very simple and just wants white and maroon Calla Lillies for her bouquet, white Calla Lillies for her 3 bridesmaids, and simple corsages for both mothers. No boutonnieres are needed because of the grooms outfit.

I guess the florists she had gone to before hiring me, were quoting her $500 more than what I got her this weekend. I just couldn't believe it! Well, I just thought I'd let you all know that I can set up a couple's wedding website for them, update it regularly with the details and pictures, and even add the couple's favorite music to the page, so the couple doesn't have to worry or stress about it.

A website is a nice detail to have. It allows your friends to learn more about your engagement and wedding planning process. Its a nice way to recognize your bridal party and groomsmen. Many people attending your wedding might not know who everyone is, and this is a great way to introduce them. You can also give more information on the ceremony and reception sites, as well as a running update on where you are in the process of planning.

If your budget is tight but you have a lot of guests to feed, what can you do?

Start your reception later, after dinner, for a cocktail party. This is a great answer on how to cut back on food and beverage costs. If you start around 8pm, your guests will know to eat dinner beforehand, and you can just serve cocktails and appetizers or desserts. You can still have the traditional cake cutting too.

You can even tie in your wedding colors to the cocktails you serve. Here are some great cocktail ideas:

What You Need:
2 oz. Stirrings Wild Blueberry Martini mixer

Tonight I am going to the Eastside Entrepreneurs networking party that I have helped plan and should be pretty fun! Everyone is welcome to come and check it out. Personally, I am excited to tour the condos at Bellevue Towers! Here are all the details for tonight:

Holiday Party Venue Search in Seattle

Had an unexpected morning that turned out great! I just got back in the office from The Tap House Grill and Fox Sports Grill in Seattle, for consideration on a company's Holiday party venue in December (Yes, we start this early. Actually in January). The client loved both spaces so that was good. And now it just comes down to the F&B minimums we get from both venues.

We were a little worried here about Holiday parties in 2009 because of the economy, but it looks like everything is slowly picking back up (fingers crossed!).

My Weekend of Wedding Planning at Snoqualmie Falls

On Saturday I had the pleasure of taking a groom and his mother up to the Salish Lodge and Spa in Snoqualmie, WA for consideration of their reception venue. Its a beautiful lodge on a cliff overlooking the Snoqualmie Falls. The view is breathtaking.

The bride wasn't able to make it because she lives in another state and had to fly back, so unfortuntely she could not see the place herself. But the groom and his mother really liked it, and they are going to tell her all about it. Now, all I am waiting for is her approval and it's good to go! (I'm crossing my fingers!)

I do this for every couple that needs to find a venue for their ceremony or reception. It's one of my favorite parts of the planning process.

Should You Have a Destination Wedding?

Because it is the first day of Spring and I am dreaming about warmer weather, and because I have met several women recently who have had destination weddings, I have to write a little bit about them.

A destination wedding is like a vacation in itself, held somewhere warm and exotic, that lasts all weekend (or longer if you want!). You will know you are a good candidate for them if you have a special connection to the location, if you want a small, very personal wedding with only close loved ones (up to 75 guests), or if you love the laid-back feeling of getting married on the beach with no shoes on!

There are several things you need to consider before choosing your location. Marriage license rules vary from city to city and country to country. Make sure you do your research and get everything together in time for the wedding. If you want to be really involved in the planning process, a destination wedding might not be for you. You wont be able to see everything first hand, and you will have to rely on someone there to make sure it is all taken care of. Also, remember that destination weddings aren't always more expensive than local weddings. It depends on where you go and how elaborate the celebration is. But do remember that it may be more expensive for your guests. Keep travel time in mind. (However, this is YOUR wedding, do what is important to you, and don't let one guest get in the way of having your dream day).

I love that a bride doesn't have to be so formal if she's on the beach. She can wear a short dress, and her bridesmaids can wear tropical colored dresses like these.

I Haven't Forgotten the Men!

I feel like I have been neglecting the grooms lately; I want to give them a little love too! I got this wonderful idea from my friend, Amy Yamada from 425 Magazine, and she told me about this great place for men. Its called Flint Men's Grooming, on Main Street in Bellevue WA. After hearing about what they do, I have GOT to check it out soon, and so do you!

They specialize in creating a "manly" atmosphere where men can come in, get what services they need done (like haircuts, shaving, executive hand detail, etc) all while watching TV on their huge flat screens and drinking a beer! Its perfect for your groom and his groomsmen for the day before or day-of the wedding.

Common Photo Questions for Your Wedding

1.) Should I hire two photographers or is one enough? I believe you should always have at least two photographers for your wedding. One photographer cannot be in all places at once, and cannot get every angle or capture every moment. Having two photographers makes sure not only you are covered, but also your wedding party and guests.

2.) When should the photo shoot be held? Its always best to do it before the ceremony. Your makeup is fresh, you haven't cried yet (hopefully), you're excited about the wedding, you aren't tired or feeling overwhelmed yet and you will have more time to party at the reception. But if you don't want your groom to see you in your dress beforehand, you can do part of the photos beforehand and part after the ceremony. Take the pictures of you getting ready, your bridal party, the bride with the groomsmen, the groom with his groomsmen and so on. Then do the rest after the ceremony with everyone together.

3.) What if the photographer misses a moment? Should I re-stage it later on in the evening? If you give the photographer a list of key moments you absolutely want them to capture, you will decrease the chances of them missing the moment because they will already know they need to get it. But, even the best photographer can miss a moment. If the moment is very important to you, you can ask all parties involved to re-create the scene. It shouldn't take too long.

4.) What can I do to look my best in the photos? I would suggest giving the photographer a few good pictures of yourself and a few bad pictures of yourself beforehand. This will let the photographer know and get the feel for what your good and bad angles are. Also, when posing, place your weight on your back leg, and slightly extend and stretch the other leg out in front. Make sure you have powder and lip gloss ready. You don't want to be shiny in the pictures. Consider some black and white photos, because they help hide skin imperfections and tend to make everyone look flawless.

5.) How can I tactfully ask what the photographer will wear? Its fine to ask them to dress appropriately for a wedding. You don't want them sticking out like a sore thumb, and neither do they! But do remember that they need to be comfortable in order to take pictures. Don't ask them to wear a tuxedo or ball gown. Usually, photographers will wear all black so they can blend into the background and not stand out.

We had a dream analyst come into my office for a meeting late last week and I thought I should let you all know it would be perfect for a bachelorette party!

She is a certified dream analyst and can decipher any dream you ask about. Having a "Dream Party" with your girlfriends would be so much fun. She can tailor the party to your specific needs and interests.

It would be fun to focus on romantic dreams, and what they have to say not only about our

relationships, but about your desires and passions in life. Understanding your dreams can lead you to a richer and more fulfilling life, especially when it comes to relationships and things you are passionate about.

Did you know many people will have a dream after a first date that will tell them whether or not

the person is a good match for them? She can ask you questions about the dream and what happened on the date, to let you know what it might mean and if they are right for you.

I have heard of some brides compiling a list of 300+ songs for their DJ to play during the wedding. This is absolutely unnecessary. If you have a 4 hour reception, with every song being about 4 minutes long, the max number of songs that can be played is 60. And that doesn't take into account the songs over 4 minutes or the times when no music is being played, like during the introductions, toasts, etc. There is no reason for the bride to stress about songs. Every bride should have an emergency kit near her at all times during the wedding day. While I don’t want to scare you, it’s very possible that the back of your earring will fall off or you will spill something on your gown.

Have someone you trust and that will be with you all day, gather the items for you and keep them with her during the day, just in case. You want to cover all bases, but you don’t want your friend carrying around a huge bag all day. I broke things down into "must-haves" and "optional".

Wedding Attire- Finding the Perfect Gown

Before you begin you search, think about the following three things:

Consider your personal style, because you want to look like you, and choose a gown that will actually look good on you. If you are a minimalist, don't go overboard with an extravagant dress and lots of makeup. If you are a lot bigger on top, you might not want to go with a strapless dress.

Consider where you are getting married. If its on the beach, in a church, at city hall, or in a barn, each location has a different atmosphere and you will need to change your dress accordingly.

Last, remember your budget and how much you are willing to spend on a dress you wear this one day. Don't waste your time trying on dresses that are way out of your price range.

Gowns by Body Type:

For the Petite Bride: You want to keep it simple with the details, or else it may seem like your drowning. If you are petite and short, keep the waist high in order to appear longer.

For the Pear Shaped Bride: Pick a dress that flows out and away from your hips. Details above the waist will attract eyes upward to where you want them.

For the Apple Shaped Bride: Choose a dress that has an empire waist. This will accentuate the smallest part of you, and then flow outward and away from you middle, disguising it.

For the Plus-size Bride: You should look for silhouettes that are flowing. Dresses that flow over the hips and do not gather too much around the waist will be the most flattering on you.

For the Full Busted Bride: You want to show your decolletage without showing too much and busting out. You need you gown to have good support.

For the Small Chested Bride: Interesting details like beading and ruching help create the illusion of curves.
For the Straight Line Bride: Mermaid style dresses and gowns with lots of ruffles will make you appear more curvy than you actually are. Also, dresses with a very defined waist can give you a more hourglass shape.

When Planning Your Own Wedding: Choose the elements that are most important to you, and then plan your budget accordingly. Is your dress the most important? Photographer? Reception food? Alcohol (haha)? Whatever it may be, make sure you know what it is at the beginning, know what it will cost you, and then plan the rest of the wedding budget around that.

A couple can get inspiration for their wedding from places like nature, interior design and fashion.
Look around your home for things you love. Are your furnature, paintings, curtains and accesories all in the same color scheme? Maybe use those colors for you wedding. Or figure out what it is about them, why you love them and how they can inspire you and use them for the concept and design of your wedding.
You can look at the latest season's popular colors to draw inspiration. The new colors for spring are light greys and browns with bright pops of color.

SEATTLE FASHION WEEK ANNOUNCES SPRING 2009 RUNWAY SHOWCASE APRIL 16 - 18

Seattle, WA (Feb 9, 2009) - Seattle Fashionistas get ready; Seattle Fashion Week (SFW) is less than three months away. As designers work to complete their collections, SFW is hosting a variety of events leading up to the runway shows, being held April 16–April 18.

SFW’s three-day, runway presentation will be held from April 16 – 18. The festivities start April 15 with a Kick-Off Party hosted at Ibiza Dinner Club. Independent designer and urban designer shows will take place April 16 and 17. The finale evening wear and couture runway show will be held April 18.

All Seattle Fashion Week Spring 2009 runway shows will be held at Fremont Studios, a 20,000 square foot venue with industry standard sound, stage, and lighting. SFW expects more than 4,000 people to attend the runway shows. Not only will they review collections, but they will recognize the importance and economic impact that the fashion industry has on Seattle.

Designers featured in this event will vary from local independent designers, a select international designer, and a student designer. The three-day event will consist of runway shows, a marketplace, live performances, sponsor booths, displays, V.I.P. parties, and more.

In addition to three days of designer shows, SFW will be hosting also had the following events: performing artist auditions, model casting and student designer competitions.

One of SFW’s ongoing goals is to integrate fashion and culture though music. This year’s runway shows will showcase a blend of up-and-coming local artists including DJ’s and vocalists. Performing artist auditions were held January 29 at Heaven Nightclub. The event was a success, with about 200 people attending. The judges chose 11 artists to perform at SFW.

In addition to performing artists, SFW is searching for established and aspiring models. Open model casting will be held February 5 at Fremont Studios from 4:00 – 8:00 p.m.

SFW is pleased to add a student designer competition to the show this year sponsored by Comcast. Students from various Seattle art and fashion institutes will submitted their designs in hopes of being able to present their line on the runway. The final student designer competition and judging will take place February 26 at Ibiza Dinner Lounge located in Pioneer Square. This event will be open to the public.

Hello Everyone,

Well, here it is, my first blog, I'm proud of myself for getting this thing up and running (with the great help of my friend Steve). I have to say that I have been browsing through a lot of blogs and I am extremely inspired by so many many of them. Some are so fantastic! The pictures and content amaze me, and in turn, inspire me to make my own blog amazing as well (so hopefully one day it is).

A few weekends ago I went to the Bellevue Bridal Expo, and had the pleasure of meeting and talking to Heather Gilson from One Love Photo. After photographing an event, she picks out one picture and creates a collage out of it. Her work is amazing, she is so creative and creates such unique artwork. I definitely want one for myself one day! Here are a few of my favorites:
